Walls divide, protect, and announce ownership. But they can also hold a bench, thicken into a garden edge, or fold to reveal a door. The architectural task is to let a necessary limit become a useful place.

A wall earns its scale when it gives something back: shade for a pedestrian, a shelf for a resident, a frame for a tree. Refusal is sometimes necessary; indifference is not.
