Stairs pace the body. They force a small adjustment in speed, offer a view that changes by degrees, and often become the one place in a building where strangers briefly occupy the same rhythm.
A pause built into circulation
When a landing is made slightly wider, when a handrail catches the light, when a window interrupts the climb, circulation stops being leftover space. It becomes a small room for orientation and chance encounter.
